Attalla Police DepartmentSRO (School Resource Officer)

A School Resource Officer (SRO) is a full time law enforcement officer in the schools with the goal of creating and maintaining educational environment. SRO’s play different roles including: law enforcement officers who keep peace in the schools; are advisors and counselors; act as a liaison between the school and the police; and are law related education teachers. Beyond these roles, and perhaps most importantly, SRO’s are positive role models for many students. SRO’s can also help change the negative perception of police officers by establishing positive relationships with students.

D.A.R.E. (Drug Abuse Resistance Education) Program

In 1994 the Attalla Police Department and the Attalla City Board of Education united to implement the D.A.R.E. Program in our schools as the Drug Education Program as required by the State. D.A.R.E. is a K-12 Program mainly targeting 5th grade as they are entering Middle School where children most likely experience peer pressure involving tobacco, alcohol, and drugs. D.A.R.E. teaches good decisions making skills, self-esteem, positive alternatives to drug use, negative peer pressure resistance skills, anti-bullying, and conflict resolution. Along with the curriculum is a summer component, D.A.R.E. Camp, sponsored by the Attalla Police Department.

D.A.R.E. Camp

Attalla D.A.R.E. Camp is a week long camp where Attalla City 5th Grade D.A.R.E. Graduates have an opportunity to attend. Surrounded by positive high school role models students have an opportunity to participate in positive alternative activities such as fishing, zip lining, ropes course, team building activities, and other team challenges all while reinforcing the components taught in D.A.R.E. Donations and fundraisers by the high school D.A.R.E. Role Models and adult volunteers of the program fund the Attalla Police Department’s D.A.R.E. Camp. As the Elementary and Middle Schools are 75% free or reduced lunch funding for camp from the parents/guardians can be difficult that is why we fundraise and take donations to keep the cost of camp for our students to a minimum.

2017 fundraiser is the Attalla Idol Dinner Show for more information on the Attalla Idol, Attalla D.A.R.E. Camp or to make a Donation to the Attalla D.A.R.E. Program click links below.
